Overview

An idyllic countryside getaway, the Tobacco Barn is a newly renovated, self-contained barn with exclusive use of a heated secluded pool and a shaded deck area. It is a perfect base for exploring the many delights of the local area: vineyards, chateaux and markets, and equally ideal for relaxing at the property, enjoying BBQ's in the sunshine, sipping a glass of wine by the pool or snoozing in the hammocks under the shade of trees. A gravelled fire-pit area is the perfect place for a bit of star gazing.

About the Property

The Tobacco Barn provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for 4 to 8 people, ideal for two couples with children. There are two bedrooms each with a king-sized bed and en-suite shower room. The second bedroom also has a mezzanine with two single beds so can be used as a family room. (Please note that the mezzanine is accessed by a steep, narrow staircase).

There is an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with a separate WC. The sitting room on a mezzanine includes a large, comfortable double sofa bed, a TV, DVD player and numerous games to keep the family entertained. WiFi is available throughout the gite. The wood burning stove makes the place perfect for a cosy winter break and wood is supplied free of charge. Outside, the terrace faces west with lovely views of the sunset across the meadow. The swimming pool is easily accessible a few yards away.

It is a fifteen minute walk to the local village, La Sauvetat du Dropt, which has a well-stocked shop, a bakery, a hair salon and a friendly café/bar/ restaurant. The soirées gourmandes (food festivals) on Friday evenings in summer are highly recommended. We are only a few minutes drive from the Lac de Lescourroux with its walking and cycling trails and nature reserve, a tranquil haven, perfect for picnicking. Eymet with its many shops, restaurants, bars, markets and tourist information office is a ten minute drive away. There are several local vineyards for wine tasting and Bergerac with a full range of shops and restaurants, go-karting and an aquapark is less than half an hour away. The Chateau Monbazillac, producing the delicious dessert wine, the Chateau Bridoire with its furnished rooms and medieval games, a great favourite with young people, and the Chateau de Duras, are all less than half an hour's drive away.

The Tobacco Barn is within easy reach of a myriad of tourist sites: chateaux, medieval villages and bastide towns, vineyards, caves, museums, churches, gardens - the list goes on! The famous sites of the Dordogne, including the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies, the cathedral city of Perigeux, the castle and gardens at Beynac, Sarlat-le-Caneda and many more, are all potential day trips.

If you want to be active, you can go canoeing and kayaking on the nearby river Dropt or the Dordogne river. If you don't want to propel yourself, boat trips on the Dordogne are available in Bergerac. Lougratte near Castillones has a lakeside beach with facilities. There is also a first class golf course 20 minutes away. Hot air balloon rides are available from nearby vineyards. Parc-en-ciel is about an hour away and Accrobranche is even closer. There is so much to do here, the only problem will be fitting it all in.

But if you just want to relax away from it all in peaceful surroundings with beautiful views, perhaps with a glass of the local wine, The Tobacco Barn is pure heaven.

A wonderful holiday awaits.

Reviews

WOW! This is absolutely outstanding. Adrienne and Jan are the best hosts we have ever had. Incredibly kind, informative, welcoming, lovely people. The house itself was perfect. Beautifully clean, comfy beds, stylish interiors, well-equipped and in the most fantastic location - surrounded by sunflower fields! Being within walking distance to La Sauvetat-du-Dropt with a bakery, shop and bar was brilliant - especially the food festival hosted there on Friday night! The nearest towns Eymet and Duras are both brilliant with great restaurants, bars and markets. The swimming pool was the icing on the cake - well built and looked after to a very high standard. Proximity to local vineyards was also great and very convenient! Adrienne and Jan are fantastic hosts who really care about about their guests and their home. We would recommend this property to everyone and look forward to returning again soon!
A tranquil setting with stunning views, for a relaxing holiday with the family. The Tobacco Barn has been beautifully converted and has everything you need to enjoy your stay...including a heated pool surrounded by flowers and fields. Adrienne and Jan were the perfect hosts, on hand if we needed anything. We hired a car for easy supermarket runs and trips into Eymet and Bergerac. We also strolled into the local village of Sauvetat du Dropt most mornings to visit the local bakery for bread and croissants and also visited the local bar for an afternoon beer. We would highly recommend this property if you are looking for a peaceful stay in the gorgeous French countryside.
This holiday was truly amazing for a number of reasons. Firstly, Adrienne and Jan are welcoming and thoughtful hosts, nothing was too much bother for them. They were very informative about what was going on locally, Which helped us plan and get the most from our time away. The property itself is quite simply beautiful and homely, finished to an exceptional standard, with all the extra items that cater for every possible scenario on a holiday with children...games, books, pool toys, and not to forget the much loved hammocks! We have enjoyed two weeks of bliss and we are not ready to come home. Whether you have a family full of energy and fun who need to be occupied, or you are in need of a tranquil haven, this is the place for you. We highly recommend Le Serpen, and look forward to returning.
What a wonderful space! Inside and out! Huge barn, wood fires, Hammock chill area, huge pool, bbq area, fire pit area, fig tree with fresh figs for the cheese boards, wine upon arrival from the local vineyard - just perfection
Adrienne and Jan’s place is beautiful, well equipped, quiet, and just very, very lovely. There are multiple things to do in the premises; the pool is stunning and the hammocks are just great; the house is super well equipped with games, barbecue and fire pit. They are wonderful hosts and make your stay super easy! (The area around the house is also nice with multiple nice towns nearby, etc)
You will have the most wonderful time at The Tobacco Barn. Adrienne and Jan are very attentive and caring hosts who are there if you need them but give you your own space too. There are so many places to relax in the grounds - the hammocks, the fire pit, the pool, the terrace. There are so many lovely personal touches too. This barn is very stylish and very good value for money and you will not regret choosing this for a wonderful holiday in the Dordogne.
We had a weeks stay at Adrienne's converted tobacco barn. It was exactly as described, and true to her description and photos. Everything was spotlessly clean, furnished well, excellents linens and towels, and a really well equiped kitchen. Adrianne was on hand if we needed advice, but in reality all the information on the area has been thoughtfully provided in a file in the accommodation. The area is stunning, fields of wildflower meadows, sunflowers and food crops. It all made for a stunning view, and sitting at the breakfast table watching the wildlife in this peaceful have was just idyllic. A short 10 minute walk to the village for the morning bread, or a 5 minute drive to the larger town makes this an ideal place to get away from it all without being remote. Adrianne talks of the final landscaping to be finished at her property, but the reality is that we did not notice that there was much left to be done, and the location and beauty of the surroundings more than make up for the outside finishing touches........book this now, it is really worth it!!
I would highly recommend Adrienne's place to anyone. The accommodation was perfect, from the homemade jam and wine we recieved when we arrived, to the pool area and fire pit (ideal for star gazing on an evening). It would be ideal for families or friends looking to stay in the area. The place was very clean and had everything we needed. Adrienne recommended the local fair which was great fun, with excellent food and drink. Great communication from start to finish. We would love to come back and stay at this property, especially when the sunflowers are in full bloom! Thank you again for having us. Love Rachel and friends xxx
